At Performance Chiropractic, our primary evaluation technique involves assessing movement. Using highly-trained hands, we determine what’s moving properly vs. what’s not moving at it’s best, in order to determine where and how to adjust. This evidence-based method is called “Motion Palpation.” Proper motion means a better life for you.
A 2024 publication in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise emphasized what many others have documented: physical activity may be the most powerful predictor of life vs. death. In other words, if you did ONE THING to live longer, movement is that one thing! Whether you enjoy walking, running, dance, competition, pickleball, gardening… the point is that how much (and how well) you move, matters. Doctors of Chiropractic are dedicated to helping you live, and move, your best.
Movement is key not only to quantity of life, but quality as well. Seniors often lose life, independence, or both as a direct consequence of falls. Chiropractic care helps with proper movement patterns and body awareness, both of which can reduce your fall risk and prolong your independent living and ability to joyfully participate in your favorite activities. Your Golden Years don’t have to be rusty!
A 2024 study** showed not only that yoga was safe and effective for chronic low back pain, but also that a VIRTUAL (i.e. not in person) series of guided instruction had tremendous value. Your strength, flexibility, body awareness, and quality of motion has a tremendous effect on your independence and freedom to live your best. Doctors of chiropractic are experts in helping you move and live your best, and we encourage our patients to take care of themselves through regular chiropractic checkups AND positive lifestyle changes. Between adjustments, yoga is a great option. So too is T’ai chi, which studies show decreases fall risk in seniors.
Movement is also healthy for your brain. The 21-point Brain Care Score (BCS) was developed by doctors at Mass General Hospital. Key brain health areas are physical, lifestyle, and social/emotional. Many, even most of these, are within your control — and a good Brain Care Score correlates to dramatically lower risk of depression, dementia, and stroke. The movement recommendation is just 150 minutes of exercise per week. Add in healthy habits like avoiding (they recommend avoidance, not just limiting) alcohol or smoking, managing stress better, building relationships, and striving for meaning in life and you’ve been empowered for a better future.
At Performance Chiropractic, our care is all about connecting You to Your True Potential (SM). Whether through the power of the chiropractic adjustment, or the safe and time-tested methods of acupuncture, or lifestyle advice, we are dedicated to helping you thrive!
